My .02 cents on politics

My freedom of speech: gonna stand on my soap box today and put in my .02 cents! Just random thoughts...

This presidential race is razor-edge close.You can go to any news website for up-to-the-minute status on which candidate is ahead. And depending on the poll and the news station it actually changes by the hour. Wow! This is truly a historical election and it's been interesting & fun for me to watch it unfold. The campaign spending alone is historic! And now it's crunch time. We will know by tomorrow night who our new president will be. And yes, there is a slight chance it may not be Mitt Romney, whom I love and voted early for last week. *Sigh* I will be quite disappointed. There's lotsa reasons that I like him. Among others, it's exciting to think that we could have a U.S. president that begins each day of leadership on his knees petitioning the Lord in prayer. But I know there is a chance Pres Obama may take this election. And I'm at peace with that. In the 2008 election I was never crazy about Obama. I was really hopeful for John McCain (No big surprise there since I'm republican). But 53 percent of America did vote for Obama so I gave him a chance. I think he would've done much better in these last 4 years, but I still think he is a decent person, a decent president. Is he the Anti-Christ? No. Is he "righteous?" Heavens no. Is he a little corrupt? Maybe. He is addicted to nicotine and this is mildly disturbing to me that he doesn't have more self-discipline, but it doesn't make him a bad person. He is pro-choice. But aren't most democrats? I think abortion is wrong & I hate the fact that democrats want to fund abortion with tax dollars. I feel that gay marriage is morally wrong. And I'm undecided about a lot of other stuff he supports. Do you need to be "righteous" to be a good president? I don't think so.

There is a film out called Obama's America about the "devastating secrets" Obama is hiding. It's really no surprise that it is shocking, because it's written by ultra conservatives who hate Obama. The whole tone of this movie and their book is a familiar one I've heard before. It reminds me of every anti-Mormon article I've ever read. Someone hateful taking half-truths and twisting them a bit with exaggeration.

Found this post on yahoo: "Every time I see people talking about politics, there's always at least one person who comes out and declares Obama to be the worst president of all time and that the man hates America and everything that the country stands for. Now, maybe they're just over-exaggerating on purpose, but why would Obama hate America if he ran for the presidency? And if you ever listen to him, he always talks about what a great country this is. So how could he hate the country? ...Sometimes I wonder if way deep down it's about the color of his skin. Never has a white president been asked to show his birth certificate. Never has a white president been accused of being Muslim. Never has a white president been accused of being born in a different country, and thus must be completely communist, anti-American, anti-religion, or anything else."

On my drive to the valley Saturday to go shopping with my son, we listened to a 30 minute segment on NPR about the heated arguing and division going on among friends and families regarding politics this election. We listened to two sisters who wouldn't even speak to each other anymore because any time "Obama" came up in their conversation, the yelling & fighting would begin. Another man refused to let any of his friends and neighbors eat his famous BBQ ribs if they didn't vote for Romney. It's disappointing when there is no tolerance of opinion. Like I said before, I support Mitt Romney. But what if I supported Pres. Obama??? Where I live I wouldn't feel comfortable putting an Obama sign in my front yard. And I'm pretty sure if I wore an "Obama mama" cap on my next jog around Payson I may get shot at. I visited someone Saturday night and to hear her speak of the election you would think the choices on the ballot were the Apostle Peter or Satan himself. Lol! (you know who you are & I love you! ; )

Throughout history have you noticed the difference between a democracy that is successful and those that just don't make it? Well in my opinion, among a few other things, is the behavior of the folks who's candidate did NOT win the election. Although disappointed, these people lose gracefully & peacefully. No bloodshed, no war. A meekness and submissiveness to Majority Rule. Isn't that constitutional? Wouldn't it be great if there was more tolerance of opinion instead of fighting over which political party was right? Because I don't think there is anything I could say to honestly persuade a democrat into republican views, and vice versa. What if instead we try to just understand each other? Last night I helped my 6 year old daughter say her prayers. "Mommy? Who should we pray wins the election?" (She is sooo smart!) My reply, "Why don't we pray that God's will be done. Let Him decide the best man for the job."
